Dear Rosemary,

I was pleasantly surprised when I found your website and I enjoyed browsing through it. Thank for all the work you put into this tho share with us.

In fact I was trying to find the songwriter of the song 'Daar bij die molen'. Do you happen know his name and who owns the copyright of this song?

I hope to hear from you! Kindest regards,

Joan.

Answer     (14 november 2020)

Dear Joan,

Thank you for the compliment for my website!

The song 'Daar bij die molen' was written by Jan van Laar sr. I'm sorry, I can't find any information about him online, so I don't know when he passed away. The song was written in the late 1920's or early 1930's.

One websites claimes it was the alias of Jan van Schalkwijk (1872-1949), a pianist. If this is the case, it would be in the public domain next year.

The organisation that manages all about copyright regarding Dutch music and songs, is called BumaStemra. If you really want to be sure, you can contact them about this song.

This song was also very popular for many years, over 100 singers recorded the song and it also was often on the radio - so it was very well-known.

I hope my answer will help you out a littlebit.

With kind regards, met vriendelijke groeten,

Rozemarijn (rosemary).
